I've been trying to loose weight now for a while (55½ months) and I'm slowly getting my weight down to a reasonable level. This page has links to charts which show my progress.

Current weight

On 2006/02/22 I was 76.4kg (168½lb or 12st ½lb), with a BMI of 25.23

I gained 0.3kg (¾lb) over the past week.

Over the past 55½ months I have lost 15.6kg (34½lb or 2st 6½lb) which amounts to 17% of my starting weight.

Fitness details

I've also been going to the gym for a while as well. Every couple of months I get a fitness assessment which involves being put onto a bike which slowly has its resistance increased until either your muscles give out or you have to stop due to your cardio system saying "Stop!". During this they measure your heart rate.

The peaks shown on the graph correspond to when I had to stop, either due to my muscles not being able to push against the load any more or due to my body saying "Stop!".

Click on the graph to the right to see the full sized graph of how I've been doing.

It should be noted that the gym has changed the bikes they use and since the new bikes are quite different to the old ones it is not very sensible to make comparisons between the two; hence the two graphs shown. The heart rate is all over the place with the new fitness test thanks to the bike varying its tension based on the speed you are peddling.

Notes on BMI

It should be noted that the BMI system is flawed in a few ways. It doesn't take body types into account, or muscle mass for that matter. Its quite possible to have a BMI which would indicate that a person was clinically obese and yet that person could have almost no fat on their body - the additional weight coming from muscle mass rather than fat.

However the BMI system is what the medical profession tend to use when looking at if someone is overweight or not. Consider it more of a guide and take into account how much muscle you have when looking at your BMI.
